More women are starting and growing businesses in Lancashire than ever. And more women are being appointed to senior positions. The county’s women are creating opportunities for themselves, their businesses and those around them. Here, in our annual review, we profile the women showing the way in the county’s commercial community.

Saira Hussain, HAD

“It has been a struggle being a woman in construction but the business is growing and I opened an office in London at the beginning of 2013,” says Saira. “I feel as though there is a glass ceiling for women in architecture and construction and it’s very difficult to gain the respect of men in the business.” Despite that, Saira has worked on many projects in the north west, including award winning projects in Manchester, Spinningfields, Media City and a council building in Rochdale.
